Setting up your PC to use Planet

To use Planet reports or Word files you will need to change some settings on your PC by following the 5 instructions below. The changes will take just a few minutes and will only have to be done once per PC.

1. Change your Internet Explorer browser settings.

• Planet is designed to work with Internet Explorer only. To use Planet your PC will need to have the 'OU standard desktop' installed. Your unit's IT Support Person (ITSP) should already have ensured that this is the case.
• From the IE menu bar, choose Tools / Internet options / General / Browsing history / Settings/ Check for newer versions of stored pages.
• Set this option to 'Every time I visit the webpage''. Then click on 'OK' until you are back at the web page you were last viewing.

2. Determine whether you have Office 2007 or Office 2010 and make the appropriate changes

Change your Word and Excel security settings in Office 2007.

• Open Word. In the Menu bar, select Tools/Options/Security.
• Click on the ‘Macro security’ button. Set the security level to ‘Medium’.
• Select ‘OK’ until you get back to Word; then shut down Word.
• Repeat the above process for Excel.

Change your Word and Excel security settings in Office 2010.

• Open Word. Select the File tab and click on 'Options' in the left hand navigation pane.
• Select Trust Centre in the left hand navigation pane then click on the 'Trust Centre Settings’ button.
• Click on 'Macro settings' in the left hand navigation pane. Select 'Disable all macros with notification'.
• Select ‘OK’ until you get back to Word; then shut down Word.

Repeat the above process for Excel. This change will mean that an 'Enable Content' button will appear in a yellow bar above the document / spreadsheet which, when selected, will allow the appropriate macros to run.

3. Check for Google & Yahoo toolbars and remove them.

• Open Control Panel and then Add/Remove Programs.
• When the alphabetical list of programs has appeared, look for 'Google' and select it. Then click on the 'Remove' button. Continue down the list and do the same for 'Yahoo'. If neither has appeared in the list, shut down the Add/Remove Programs window.

4. Download a cookie to enable Planet reports and Word files.
