Every OU module or pack moves through lifecycle stages - from planning through production to presentation. At each stage more descriptive information is added to Planet about the module, culminating in a report that is then run for approval of the module at that stage. The approval dates of one or more reports is recorded in screen PL006, where the module edition status can be updated when the required number of reports have been completed for that status.
The change of module status flags the approval to units in the OU so they can use the information to carry out various operations in support of the module. A simplified summary of the main module edition status codes is:
A – early planning & University approval
B – specification and production
C – module content ready for first presentation
D – module (edition) completed
The overview diagram 'How a module edition is developed on Planet' a useful way of seeing how each report supports a different Planet module edition status.
The table below explains these OU module lifecycle stages, Stage gate process points and outcomes in more detail. Click on the title of any Stage gate process point to open a Word checklist of what needs to be completed on Planet for that stage.
